10 Healthy Road Trip Snacks

Jacob and I are preparing for our upcoming spring break trip, and I’ve been thinking about our snacking options.  If you’re like us, a proper road trip must have the proper snacks.  Before our weight loss journey, we snacked on all things horrible on our road trips (at least horrible for weight loss)–Sour Patch Kids, Doritos, some form of a chocolate bar, and pork rinds or cracklin’ strips.  Clearly, these are not the best options; however, they are our favorite snack items while on the road.  Needless to say, with this upcoming trip and future trips, we have to change up the way we snack.  With that knowledge, I did a test run on snacks on a small day trip we took a couple of weeks ago.  From that trip, I compiled a list of healthy snacks to satisfy the munchies.  We aren’t 100% perfect (it’s hard for me to say ‘no’ to cracklin’ strips), but we do try to strive for healthy snacking excellence.

10 Healthy Road Trip Snacks

If you’re like me and use MyFitnessPal for your food diary, I highly recommend measuring out your portions and putting snacks in plastic baggies for road trips.  Something like mixed nuts or Wheat Thins can become calorie busters if just eaten in handfuls.

-Mozzarella stick w/pepperoni

-Vegetables (I prefer sliced cucumber, grape tomatoes, or baby carrots)

I really like bringing vegetables as they can be a great side if you need to stop for lunch.  Eat raw or bring your favorite dip!

-Mixed nuts or almonds

-Fresh fruit (I like clementines)

-Organic fruit snacks

-Wheat Thins

-Graham crackers

-Whole grain crackers w/sliced cheese

-Hard-boiled eggs

-Chocolate covered fruit or nuts

Don’t forget to back a small trash bag, hand sanitizer, and napkins to help keep your car (and yourself) nice and clean while on the road.

What’s your favorite road trip snack?

I love fruit to snack on. One of my favorite things in the summer is frozen grapes. They are like an icy treat that is so refreshing in our summer heat here in the south. Plus, they are always great to throw in a glass of wine to help keep it cool later on 😉
